Game of Thrones has already ruined House of the Dragon’s biggest death

House of the Dragon spoilers follow.

House of the Dragon provides game of Thrones fans with a brand new trip to Westeros, but it’s only new if you haven’t read the books it’s based on. For those who have already devoured George RR Martin’s Fire & Bloodevery death and betrayal was outlined in full long before this prequel hit our screens.

But, actually, wait. Scrap it. Even if you I do not have read the source material, House of the Dragon it was still ruined anyway for fans who actually paid attention game of Thrones in the third season.

The events represented in House of the Dragon it occurred 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen was born, but that didn’t stop King Joffrey from revealing Rhaenyra Targaryen’s fate in the episode titled “And Now Her Wake Is Over”.

The final House of the Dragon spoiler alert.

The episode in question, episode four, includes a scene in which the adorable monarch Joffrey Lannister, strolls through the Sept with Margaery Tyrell, his fiancée. During their walk, Joffrey stops at a certain point to show her the final resting place of Rhaenyra Targaryen, who is now long dead.

“Rhaenyra Targaryen was killed by her brother, or rather her dragon,” says Joffrey. “She ate it while her son looked at her. What remains of her is buried in her crypts right over there.”

Ouch. So that’s what’s really going to happen to Rhaenyra House of the Dragon one day? Or is the king just exaggerating?

Unfortunately for Rhaenyra she is everywhere, which is exactly how the princess will die. And the man who ends up killing her just showed up for the first time House of the Dragon episode three.

Yes, Alicent Hightower’s cute baby boy, young Aegon Targaryen, will one day grow up to order his half-sister’s death. And the son of Rhaenyra, who is not yet born, will see his mother die at the hands of Sunfyre, Aegon’s dragon. Annoyingly enough, this son is also named Aegon, so you have to look forward to him.

Technically, though, we’re a long way from these events, even with the show’s passion for random time hops. But someday, beyond perhaps even Season 2, Rhaenyra will eventually take the Iron Throne during a Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of Dragons. His reign won’t last long, as King’s Landing will turn against Rhaenyra in a betrayal that will lead directly to his death.

Aegon, being the savage monarch he is, continues to decree that the history books should never refer to Rhaenyra as a true queen of Westeros. Instead, she should forever be referred to as a princess despite her rightful time on the throne.

Ironically, it’s possible that the dragon egg rescued by Rhaenyra in episode two may turn out to be none other than Sunfyre’s, meaning the princess may have set her own death in motion already on the show. However, these are only guesses on our part.

But what we know is that game of Thrones also revealed some more details about the Dance of the Dragons during a scene in which Shireen Baratheon explained how they ended up in Ser Davos Seaworth:

“It is the story of the struggle between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon for control of the Seven Kingdoms.”

“They both thought they belonged to the Iron Throne,” Shireen continued. “When people began to declare themselves for one or the other, their battle divided the kingdom in two. The brothers fought the brothers. The dragons fought the dragons. When it ended, thousands of people. they were dead. And it was a disaster for the Targaryens too. They never really recovered. “

It sounds pretty creepy … but there’s a slim chance some of these spoilers won’t materialize. House of the Dragon has already made a few small changes to the source material in just the first three episodes, so who’s to say there aren’t any bigger changes taking place?

For now, however, the only people who know for sure what lies ahead are the showrunners who have already planned the entire show from start to finish. What remains to be seen is whether they were inspired by Joffrey or took matters into their own hands.

House of the Dragon the first season airs weekly in the US on Sundays HBOand on Monday in the UK on Atlantic sky and now. Season 2 has been announced. game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
